External Hemorrhoids
External Hemorrhoids Overview:
What are external hemorrhoids?
Both internal and external hemorrhoids are the result of either a) diminished vascular health, or b) poor digestive health, or c)
straining the muscles of the anus and lower pelvic area. Hemorrhoids are veins in the anal canal or around the anus. If vascular health is poor, these
veins can lose their elasticity and allow blood to pool and balloon inside the vein, expanding the vein and the tissue surrounding
and supporting it. If digestive health is poor, the constant stress put on these veins with each bowel movement can cause
excess pressure on the veins, essentially forcing them to balloon and stretch.External hemorrhoids occur on or just outside the anal opening and are typically the easiest type of hemorrhoids to diagnose as the swollen veins are usually visable. Unlike internal hemorrhoids, which may go entirely unnoticed without a doctor's examination, external hemorrhoids are usually accompanied by swelling and irritation, itching, and sometimes pain. For many people with external hemorrhoids, the simple task of wiping after a bowel movement can be the most agonizing part of their day. How to treat external hemorrhoids
There is no medical "cure" for external hemorrhoids, but there are dozens of topical creams and ointments indicated for the relief
of external hemorrhoid symptoms. You should use caution in selecting these products, however, as many of them can contribute
to the problem they are designed to alleviate. Avoid products with steroidal ingredients as these can weaken the skin and
further agrevate the situation.A warm, plain-water bath can be very soothing as it relaxes the tissue around the anus. An extendable shower head or bidet can also be helpful as it's important to keep the area clean and dry. For most people, a diaper rash cream can help alleviate the symptoms of external hemorrhoids as well as lubricate the area to prevent further agetation during bowel movements. Dietary supplementation can also be a good remedy for external hemorrhoids and is becoming more and more popular. This approach typically addresses both digestive and circulatory health and therefore can be an effective treatment for internal as well as external hemorrhoids.
